With the price of gold soaring due to global economic uncertainty, a gold sculpture of four bats in Hampyeong-gun County, Jeollanam-do Province, has skyrocketed in value to KRW 23.7 billion as of Feb. 20. Made in 2008 at a cost of KRW 3 billion, the work marks the 1999 discovery of 162 golden bats, a Grade 1 endangered species and natural monument, in the county.
